How rabies is spread: Dogs, foxes, cats, monkeys, benzi, bats, etc. are infected with the rabies virus and the infected animals bite humans. The rabies virus is present in the saliva of the mouths of these infected animals. When this saliva comes in contact with the blood through an old wound or a tooth or a small scratch, it spreads through the blood and causes rabies. In our country, 95% of rabies is caused by dog bites.
Symptoms of rabies: Symptoms of rabies appear between 9 and 90 days after the bite of a suspicious animal. If the symptoms of rabies appear in someone's body, two types of behavior can occur in the affected person - crazy or insane behavior and silent behavior. The person affected by abnormal behavior will have abnormal speech and attitude. He will run without a purpose, will be hungry, will make a distorted sound, will come to bite another without persuasion, etc.
Also the thirst for water will increase a lot, but you will not be able to drink water. When you see water, you will be terrified and scared. Panic will increase when you come in contact with light and air. It will be very difficult to eat, you will not be able to eat. Trembling in the body, excess saliva will be excreted through the mouth. Voices can be hoarse. Mood will become irritable, aggressive behavior will occur.
Silent behavior will make the affected area feel a little numb. The body may become dull and drowsy. Behind human eyes, body tremors and paralysis can occur.
What to do if a suspicious animal bites or scratches: After biting or scratching the suspected animal, the wound should be washed thoroughly with soap and running water for 10-20 minutes and then thoroughly cleaned with potassium permanganate solution. The wound should then be thoroughly washed with chlorhexidine or povidone iodine. It destroys 70-80% of germs.
Then you must take the advice of a doctor or take it to the nearest hospital. The rabies vaccine should be taken as advised by the doctor. The vaccine is usually given in 5 doses on the 3rd, 6th, 14th and 28th day after the first day. Human rabies may also need to be given immunoglobulin in certain cases.
What cannot be done on the wound site: No saline, ice, sugar, salt etc. alkaline substances can be used on the wound site. Batipara, Panpara, Chinipara, Mishripara, Jharfunk etc. cannot save anyone from rabies. The wound should never be cut, sucked or bandaged with anything else. It can cause infection. Ice, electric shocks or handcuffs should not be applied to the wound. Do not waste time taking refuge in any Kabiraj or Ojha and taking any unscientific or malpractice treatment.
Animals that do not need to be vaccinated against bites: Rats do not need to be vaccinated against rats, rabbits, squirrel.
